Yes, those are two separate products/features. DLP is usually configured based on Sensitive information types , but can optionally be integrated with AIP to apply to labeled content. The latter option is only available for certain workloads currently.

Michael, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't AIP now in 'maintenance mode'?
So would anything to do with DLP require Microsoft Purview?
From what I can see, Microsoft is consolidating all dap and information protection for both O365 and Azure into Purview.

You can use sensitivity labels as a condition in DLP policies for these locations:

Exchange Online email messages
SharePoint Online
OneDrive for Business sites
Windows 10 devices
