IIS - Repeated login prompts

Originally posted as an SQL MDS issue but not convinced that's the root cause.

I have IIS installed on Windows Server 2019 in support of an SQL Master Data Services installation. When I try to login to the site from the same server I get repeated prompts for my username/password. If I cancel the login, I get a 401 error.

If I try to access the site from another computer on the same domain, the symptoms are identical.

However... if I access the site from my home workstation (no domain) while connected to the corporate network through VPN it works fine.

All attempts using MS Edge and the same credentials.

I'm reasonably sure this worked after I first installed MDS - although I can't evidence that. However we recently had to create some SPNs (including a machine SPN) to enable the Power BI on this server to communicate with SSAS on another machine. I don't know if this is the cause of the problem but wanted to include all potential causes.

I have modified the "Authentication" settings on the "Default Web Site" to match the MDS site and the symptoms are now the same on the "Default Web Site" - so it's definitely not an MDS issue.

Any ideas? Thanks.

This issue was caused by the SPN on SQL Reporting Services (also running on the server) having SPNs of HTTP/... rather than HTTPS/... which is how the site was configured.
