Visual Studio launches cl.exe without compiling nothing

I costume to have like 3-4 instances of Visual Studio 2022 open, my computer was often getting frozen, and i figured out the cause was VStudio randomly spamming many instances of cl.exe without I compiling anything.

Sometimes it randomly launches like 5 cl.exe, could this be a bug, virus or what?

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. cl.exe is a tool that controls the Microsoft C++ (MSVC) C and C++ compilers and linker. Is there any "link" related operation running? Are there any other process, extensions, command line tools or applications running? Does the issue persist, if you try to close every applications and then reboot your machine and test to only opening several VS instances(with C++/C projects)?

Hi, i tried what you said, but it persist, i think its being caused by intelissense, any idea in how i could stop it?

There are many kinds of IntelliSense, you can try to uncheck the related IntelliSense options in Tools > Options > Text Editor > C/C++ > IntelliSense. For other IntelliSense settings, you can check this document: Visual C++ IntelliSense features.
