Hello everyone, I hope you can help me.

I need to migrate a linux machine with AlmaLinux operating system which is based on Red Hat.
The migration must to be done as a physical machine (bare metal) since in the environment I do not have the possibility to import a vmware appliance and make the connection to the vcenter.

By following Microsoft documentation I was able to successfully migrate Windows Server and Linux Debian machines: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/migrate/tutorial-migrate-physical-virtual-machines

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/migrate/migrate-support-matrix-physical-migration

When I try to install the mobility service on the AlmaLinux machine, I get the following errors:

I checked the compatibility matrix and it would seem to be confirmed: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/vmware-physical-azure-support-matrix#replicated-machines

can anyone help me? thanks!

    Hi,

Though it lists Linux OS as supported OS in Azure, there are many factors that need to be considered so please check the detailed information over here .vmware-physical-azure-support-matrix

    Hope this helps.

On Microsoft documentation I see that these versions of Linux VM is supported in Azure:

If centos 8 is supported shouldn't AlmaLinux also be supported?
I can't find confirmation of that in Microsoft documentation.

    Hello @Denis Dal Molin ,

As mentioned by @JimmySalian-2011 , azure migrate doesn't support this non azure endorsed Linux distribution for migration. However, for some of these distributions, there is a general guidance for running your Linux distribution on Azure.
All other, non-Azure Marketplace, distributions running on Azure have a number of prerequisites. This article can't be comprehensive, as every distribution is different. Even if you meet all the criteria below, you may need to significantly tweak your Linux system for it to boot on azure and run properly in case your Linux distribution has custom Linux.
You can bring your own Linux by following the guidelines at Create and upload a virtual hard disk that contains the Linux operating system..

In case you have a good number of critical VMs with AlmaLinux which needs to be migrated to azure, you could pick a small size VM and give this approach a shot and see if that boots on azure.

I also see that AlmaLinux offers images for Azure across all Azure regions via the Azure Marketplace. Ref#https://wiki.almalinux.org/cloud/Azure.html#contributing

    Hope this helps!
