Recently bought a new desktop computer that originally came with windows 10 preinstalled. I attempted to upgrade to windows 10 pro via the app store. After installing windows 10 pro, its saying windows is no longer activated/there is no valid digital license or key/ Error code: 0xC004C003
I looked for the product key in the email receipt, but its not there?

no I have had the same problem wasted money on that crap from microsoft Now i cant activate the upgrade or get back the windows 10 home that I had to begin with. Your answer does not help fix anything

Find and use a default product key
search:
default pk for win 10
If this doesn't work, call customer support

Matt - thanks very much for suggesting this.
I tried on my laptop and it seems to have worked -> it now says product activated!
I don't really know how to tell if this has completely worked, but I'm not getting the error message any more so hopefully that's the problem fully resolved.

I was having the same issue as @Claire Bradley above. This is the correct answer. A shame that the workflow is broken like this, and customer have to go to forums to get their issues solved

I have exactly the same problem. I don't have a product key though, it is a digital license. I can see the receipt for the purchase in my microsoft account but don't have a product key I will be able to use. Any ideas?

This seem to have solved the issue I was facing after purchasing Windows 10/11 Pro from the Microsoft Store (from Win10 Home Version) as well. Cheers!

Hi,
Looks like your Windows 10 home is OEM activated.
To upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro and activate your device, you'll need a valid product key or a digital license for Windows 10 Pro.
These are 2 editions of Windows and they require different keys to be activated.

How do you get the product key for the win 10 pro upgrade if your Win 10 home is OEM activated and you have already paid Microsoft for it and they would not refund. And know I purchased this upgrade going into my settings and clicking link that takes you straight to microsoft store app so i know its legit. this is upsurd I just want my copy activated or my old win 10 home and my money back. Tired of the run around with Microsoft and tired of being rerouted to you stupid Window Activation Help Page which has been no help at all along with every support person I have spoken to. I have the very same issue. I spent $107.17 to upgrade to Pro and they took my money but didn't provide any key. This is very frustrating. I am having activation problems on my Microsoft Surface Laptop 3!!! This is their own product and I can not even upgrade it from Home to Pro!!!

I have the exact same issue.
Was forced to purchase a PC for work purposes (am definite Mac person). Was told I should update to Windows Pro as that is what is needed for my work. Of course, within 1 hr of having this PC there is an issue. What a surprise. How many hours of my time am I going to waste trying to get this sorted out. Un-freaking-believable.
Has anyone tried getting a refund off Microsoft?
I'm going to go back to PC World where I bought the laptop because it seems like choosing their already installed package was a mistake. My laptop tells me it's not an authentic Windows product, which feels like it must be a mistake?

Exactly the same issue with me too. I paid $5500 for top of the range fully optioned Microsoft Surface Book 3, came with Windows 10 Home. I went to Microsoft Store and paid for the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. Email arrived, but no product key in email. Went to Windows Activation screen, but failed to activate saying the same error message as RaymondKennedy-2444. Now my SB3 has a permanent display message bottom right corner of screen saying I need to activate and stop using non-genuine windows. I find this highly insulting, as it's Microsoft stuff up. I cannot even revert back to Home. Cannot get a refund. So thats $169 down the drain. Doesn't microsoft employ people to test their products? How hard can this be? Obviously microsoft are the most hopeless bunch of programmers out there and their customer support is ZERO. So frustrated. How hard is it to look after your customer who has paid nearly $6000? Bunch of thieves they are. None of the help options worked. I have googled for solutions and tried them all, none of them worked. Looks like my only option left is to reset the SB3! Time I don't have and shouldn't need to do. I reckon the government should step in and force microsoft to display a big warning on their store page, "if you buy this upgrade, there is 100% probability microsoft will steal your money and not give you the upgrade."
And microsoft doesn't even care, that like running salt into my wound.
