Hi Guys,

I'm currently on a VMWare to Azure migration.

I was wondering if it was necessary to install the "Azure Linux Agent" on linux servers.

Is it necessary or can it be dispensed with to increase the stability of Linux servers in Azure?

If yes, i don't understand the compatibility with the Linux OS version. Informations of this 2 documentation is different.

https://github.com/Azure/WALinuxAgent/blob/master/README.md

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/extensions/agent-linux

What is the correct documentation with the OS compatibility version ?

Another question, is it recommended to install ASR (Azure Site Recovery) agents on Windows or Linux servers for migration with Azure Migrate under vsphere (I was recommending an agentless mode for now)?

Thx for your reponses !

@Jeje 7401 Welcome to Microsoft Q&A community forum.

The Linux agent (waagent) manages VM interaction with the Azure Fabric Controller, and we recommend that you install the agent to run Azure extensions.

Please refer to this document - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/extensions/agent-linux to know about the Linux versions.

You can look at the support matrix - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/migrate/migrate-support-matrix-vmware-migration and decide which method you want to use to migrate. We would recommend using the agentless migration method if the on-premises VMs meet the requirements outlined in the support document.

    Hello @SadiqhAhmed-MSFT

    Thx for your recommandations

Agentless is recommended but specific server (for example AD, SQL Server etc...) with Microsoft software installed on this. The migration with agent for there specific VM are recommanded to adapt replicate data to Azure ?

What do you think to migrate all VMWARE VM to AVS ? Is more easy to migrate ?

    Thx for your responses !
