Hello,

I am new to Azure, please bear with me if my question seems silly.

We know configuring Private endpoint means traffic goes through Azure backbone and internet doesn't come into picture. We don't have VPN or Azure VM and we have configured Private endpoint for Azure SQL instance (just DBs, not managed instance).

I have created a VNET with a subnet with IP range covering my IP address (laptop) and also added private IP assigned to Azure SQL instance in the host file of my laptop but still unable to connect to Azure SQL instance using IP Address.

I think I won't be able to connect to Azure SQL instance using IP address unless I route my connection request either through VPN or some Azure resource.

Appreciate your insightful response. Thank you!!

@anil kumar Yes, you need a VPN or Express Route to your VNET from your laptop/on-premise network to be able to connect to your SQL via private link. Here are more details given in the Private Endpoint documentation.
Please let us know if you need further details and we will be glad to assist you further. Thank you!
