How can I better protect my documents and files against attacks.

In this day and age, people have become more reliant on technology, cyberware, and information shared across various mediums around the world. In order to better secure my documents and files that have private information, what would be the best steps or investment in technology to secure such information? Besides updating apps, encryption of files and installing anti virus software.

    General protection methods you have mentioned, that’s good, these methods always can be enough.

    1. Enable Windows Defender Ransomware protection
    2. Backup files and folders to a cloud or an external drive
    3. Encrypt files and folders
    4. Keep your PC up-to-date
      If you want a higher security level or defense, the following methods are optional.
    5. Enhance Email verification, do not open attachments in emails from unknown senders
    6. Use strong passwords for Windows accounts if connecting through Remote Desktop or juts disable remote connection.
    7. Secure your wireless network at your home or business.
    8. Overwrite deleted files rather than general delete.
    9. Consciously check and configure app privacy settings
