Is Azure Data Catalog still supported and current?

We're currently evaluating Azure as a platform for our new data management and storage needs, and I've come across Azure Data Catalog, which on the surface seems to be a reasonable tool to use as part of this. However scratching the surface, it feels very low on features. I would expect this from a brand new tool probably, however it looks like this is several years old now, with no updates since. The user voice posts asking for fairly basic and required features, like lineage and relationships, automatic schema updates, and Power BI integration seem like things that need to be added, but had not been added or commented on for years. Even things like Azure Data Lake Gen2 are not supported, so it makes me nervous to implement a tool like this, if we're not going to get the support we need to use it with the rest of the Azure stack on offer

    Hi @Cameron ,

Thanks for reaching out and sincere apologies for delay in response.

I have reached out to internal team and here is the info received. Yes, ADC is still supported, based on similar feedback from other customers, ADC engineering team is actively working on offering additional advanced features that will allow us to provide a catalog in the cloud with advanced scanning and automated classification for Azure PaaS.

I do not have a definite ETA at the moment but the tentative ETA is early CY2021, until then below is recommendation from internal source.

    1. Use the existing offering (ADC Gen 1) & switch to use the advanced offering once the features are publicly available (CY2021). or
    2. Use a partner product.

I would recommend you to please subscribe to Azure Update notification to stay informed about the latest Azure product updates and announcements. Azure updates

    Hope this info is useful.

This is great news! The last updates so far are back to year 2017, so I was wondering the same thing.
At least the Glossary functionalities are too basic, and REST APIs are complex just for glossary sharing.. also connectivity with Power BI would be great.

It would be good to have some roadmap presentation for ADC that I can present to the team and the company.

Great example of how poorly this tool is managed. Huge mistake for my team to buy into it. There is no answer about the most basic questions even from inside Microsoft. What a joke!
