I am seeing high CPU usage (~90% on an 4 core laptop) and memory usage with Visual Studio Community 2019 Version 16.9.0 for the last 6 hours and the laptop has become super hot. The laptop didn't go into sleep mode either. Only a web app solution is open in VS.
First, you may want to fix the VS year in the Title. For this kind of issue its probably best to use the "Report a Problem" feature and capture a recording of the VS having a problem, and then collect a 32bit memory dump (use Process Explorer, not task manager) of the process, attach it to the problem report and submit. This protects your actual code and keeps it private between you and Microsoft), then add a link to that problem report from this question. Then close VS, let your device cool off and see if it repeats, trying other project types.
Maybe it is a problem of third-party controls or components that are used in your project?

There is one other solution too. Try to unpin the unused Visual Studio Windows e.g. Diagnostic Tools, Object Explorer, Server Explorer, etc. This will also help you to prevent unnecessary disk usage.
Thanks for the responses. It seems okay afer a computer restart. I will update when it happens again and will use the report a problem feature.
