Commenting out sections of SSRS configuration file to eliminate spurious errors

Our SSRS log is showing two errors that I would like to eliminate:

  • Invalid PBI Configuration
  • Email Provider has no server or pickup directory specified

We are neither using Power BI nor email, thus neither has meaningful configuration.

Can I simply comment out the "Report Server PowerBI" and "Report Server Email" to get rid of this error?

I think that I can test on my test server, but if anyone has had experience doing this, please comment.

    Hi @Russel Loski ,

It seems that the issue is related with configuration.

I'd like to suggest that you may re-configure the SSRS.

Remove the exist web portal url and web service url.

If possible you could re-connect to a new report server database and change the service account for a try.

    Also delete the e-mail settings.

    Regards,

    Zoe

I have been experimenting for the last two days.

I commented out the Extension elements that had either the name "Report Server Email" or "Report Server PowerBI". I then restarted the SSRS server. I have not seen the errors that I had seen before. And the server appears to be working ok.

Now I'm tempted to comment out the TERRADATA extension section and a couple other sections. I will keep you updated and will mark this as answered if we don't discover hidden issues in the long term.

Here is my problem with these errors. We have determined that these errors don't point to any problems that we need to address. However, they generate noise that can hide errors that we can address.
