Teams video quality

We have been holding off on switching from Skype for Business to Teams for our videoconferencing and telehealth due to the poor video quality. I tested it again today and noticed that if I sign completely out of Skype for Business, the Teams meeting audio quality improves, but not the video. Would the video improve if we completed the upgrade switch to Teams?

Thank you for your valued time in responding.

Thanks All. I got a response from Microsoft Teams Support:

Microsoft has reduced their bandwidth and quality settings to 720p or less in some cases with the surge of usage due to corona virus. Until they upgrade to meet demand or people go back to normal life we won't be able to really get solid video through the service for a bit

    Hey LindaJohnson-3599,

I would recommend 2 things that are not technical related if you have solid hardware on your endpoints already.

    1) get with your Microsoft account team and ask them to put you in touch with other customers that have deployed Teams for the purpose of Telehealth. They can get you in contact with another custom and collaborate on how they got it setup and any technical configuration changes they needed to make

    2) get with your TAM (technical account manager) with your premier support contract if you have one, if not then use some of your software assurance premier incident credits > all to ask for an O365 Network performance assessment engagement. This is an incredibly detailed assessment of your path to O365 and back from a maximum of 6 laptops (that you can put anywhere in your network). These laptops will run synthetic transactions with an account you stand up and license for the duration of the engagement. After a couple weeks of running the laptops you will work with the PFE (premier field engineer) to upload the data from each computer > then go through a very detailed analysis. They look at EVERYTHING down to the packet level. We are awaiting our analysis as I type.

    Hope this helps!
    Jason

    Hi,

I've personally not had video quality problems, but there are currently many reporting video quality issues.
This is most likely due to the awareness of Microsoft 365 temporary feature adjustments" due to very extensive increase in the cloud services during the pandemic.

From what I've read today, Microsoft are as increasing the capacity as we speak due to the high demands.

You'll also of course need to ensure you meet the hardware requirements:

    Hi LindaJohnson-3599!

I found many customers have the same issue in Microsoft Teams.

In my understanding, we recommend you check if your bandwidth is sufficient. Teams is designed to give the best audio, video, and content sharing experience regardless of your network conditions. That said, when bandwidth is insufficient, Teams prioritizes audio quality over video quality. The following table shows how Teams use bandwidth for your reference:

    I answered my own question.
    SfB network-requirements

The bandwidth numbers you provided are the same for Skype for Business.

So, in conclusion our bandwidth is not the issue with the poor video quality with Teams. I did include myself in the user voice for Teams. Thank you guys so much for your thoughts, ideas and support. :)
