team

I would like to get help designing my lab.

I have:

2 node file servers with s2d(Cluster name: fscluster)

2 node hyper v cluster (cluster name) hvcluster)

how can I make the hyper v cluster use the file server storage as its high availability shared storage

I'm new to design and would like some help and advice.

Please advice!

Windows Server Clustering
Windows Server Clustering
Windows Server: A family of Microsoft server operating systems that support enterprise-level management, data storage, applications, and communications.Clustering: The grouping of multiple servers in a way that allows them to appear to be a single unit to client computers on a network. Clustering is a means of increasing network capacity, providing live backup in case one of the servers fails, and improving data security.

    Hi Maxbar,

Please check if my understanding is correct, you would like to deploy a hyper V S2D cluster, storing Hyper V VMs in S2D virtual disks.

If my understanding is correct, the "Hyper V cluster" and "S2D" cluster should be one cluster. If you have four nodes in total, then add the four nodes into the cluster, add local disks to each node, and enable S2D, then, create cluster VMs and store them in the virtual disk in S2D.

In the S2D cluster storage pool, create virtual disks:

In the "Disks", we may see the virtual disks in storage pool, then make the disk to be CSV, so that we may store Hyper V VMs in the CSV:

Then create Hyper V VM and store in CSV volume:

Based on my understanding, S2D cluster uses local attached disks for cluster nodes to use. I don't think virtual disks created in S2D cluster supports for another cluster to use via ISCSI.

    Best Regards,

    Anne

    Hey,

As an alternative, in case you do not have storage in your hvcluster, you can deploy scale out file server on fscluster to store VMs from hvcluster.

The following guide might help: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/blog/microsoft-storage-spaces-direct-4-node-setup-2
