Windows 11 Intel Core i5 processor support?

The document "https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-intel-processors" is available online, which lists Intel 11-compatible Intel based processors.
I myself have a two year old Lenovo Y520 gaming computer with an Intel Core i5-7300HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz as the processor.
The processor on my machine is NOT a supported processor.

When using Microsoft Computer Health Check to check for Windows 11 compatibility, that processor is the only problem that should prevent my computer from upgrading to the new version of Windows 11.
However, the summary states that "Windows 11 does not currently support the processor." Are there any compatible processors to add and when could my laptop processor be supported somewhere? Or will Microsoft coldly put some processors out of support?
It's kind of a shame if Microsoft does that, because I can't believe that a two-year-old computer is so museum-aged that it won't get the latest operating system updates.

My friend how has an 8y/o laptop was able to download Windows 11.
My laptop is 6 y/o and I have Intel® CoreTM i5-5200u CPU @ 2.20GHz and I will NOT be able to experience/download Windows11 because my CPU is NOT on the list. SO Disappointed in Microsoft right now. :(

Why would a 4 year old CPU be a problem. Mine is a r Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70GHz, 2701 MHz, 4 core.

I think it is best when most people run the same MS Windows OS. My computer has Secure Boot and the firmware upgrade for tpm 2.0. So best would be to allow this CPU for W11. Why not? Is there a security issue? And will I not have a security issue with W10. My fear is that security updates for W11 will get priority, so I will be stuck with a less secure W10.

I feel forced to new (because safer) hardware. Is there no other solution?

We should do much more to prevent e-waste and Microsoft is not doing its best in this respect!

Many workarounds have been presented if MS does not support the CPU, but if that is possible, why not allow those CPUs anyhow?
If these rejected CPUs give problems, indicate which. Show examples were it goes wrong. I now plainly do not even belief what Microsoft is saying.
MS sells hardware, so with the new OS they are self-promoting their new hardware. Shame on you MS!

It is time to separate the hardware and software business apparently under anti-kartel laws! Will then also hold for Apple and Google of course!

I'd imagine the main reason gen 8+ processor's are the only ones supported for Windows 11 is so Microsoft can sell a brand new computer to a few billion people by no later then October 2025.

Hi @Mika Saastamoinen ,

During the summer of 2021 Microsoft made it clear that only Intel 8th Gen and beyond CPUs were officially supported, however the list may still change.

If you're willing to install Windows 11 manually, then the minimal Windows 11 requirements below will come into play which are:

Processor

1GHz (64-bit) processor with 2 or more cores

Memory

4GB of RAM

Storage

64GB

----------

Laptop 64-bit prosessor "Kaby Lake" runs with 4 cores and 4 threads, I have 16 GB of RAM ... and My laptop storage is over 64GB.

So will I be able to install Windows 11 manually if those conditions (1GHz (64-bit) processor with 2 or more cores, 4GB of RAM, storage over 64GB) are met?

Is that Windows 11 available for free download in this case from Microsoft and upgrading to registered Windows 10?

In that case, apparently Microsoft isn’t just fully supporting the computer ... have I misunderstood?

I have the exact same scenario as @Mika Saastamoinen . I don't understand why Microsoft is supporting Atom & Celeron processors for Windows 11 but not i5 7th Gen? My laptop is just 2 years old and is compatible with all other requirements. I am definitely not going to upgrade it just for the processor incompatibility with Windows 11.

I have a licensed Windows 10 Education. If I manually upgrade to Windows 11 (I am not sure if Windows update will suggest it due to the processor incompatibility), will I lose the license? Is there an equivalent Windows 11 Education upgrade?

Could you respond questions @Atul Kamble asks and second question of @Mika Saastamoinen and some extra questions I have below.

Because I also have more than thousand euros 2 year old gaming laptop (really good deal on those days based specs laptop have)
which now lacks compatibility of Win11 (only because of prosessor)

What ALL possible disadvantages I will face if I will do manual update?

With licenses? (possible not reversible later)
With softwares?
With hardware functions?

To let you know I can buy a computer today APR 2022 from Dell that has a CPU i5 that will not work with WIN 11. What am I going to do with that computer when WIN 10 is no longer supported? Does MS realize how many computers all over the world will become useless in 4 years. Seems they have no concern for the environment!! Besides the environmental impact of making new computers.

Or all the low income people that cannot afford to replace a perfectly good computer.

There have been many bad decisions by MS, this has to be the worst and the nail on the coffin for MS. There are other operating systems available and I'm sure more to come. Good ridence to MS!

it does not make any sense. in other motherboards older than mine Win 11 goes fine.

This would be acceptable if there were a way to manually download 22H2. It won't show up in Windows updates and you can't install it from the Installation Assistant because it fails the health check. I'm running Windows 11 on this PC right now and it's doing just great... but I need 22H2, so I will probably have to downgrade to Windows 10.

Computers are manufactured with very different technical configurations.

My laptop (Lenovo Y520) is also built with a 7th Gen Intel® Core i7 CPU (... although it doesn't seem to be on the list of processors supported by Windows 11 either).
Likewise, graphics cards as well as memories (RAM) and hard disk (HDD) configurations have been very different.

Keep in mind that this thread is about processor support for the Windoes 11 operating system.

Has anyone tried Ubuntu? If my 2y old processor will not be supported for win 11 upgrade, I will chose linux. Not everyone affords to buy a new pc/ notebook for around 700 Euros/Dollars every 2 years. This was the price of my notebook.

@Lucian Pop I'm running a HP desktop all in one with the same processor problem. I have tested an Ubuntu install and found everything ran beautifully. Worth considering given free install and lots of free programs. I suspect Linux might become a little more popular with users like us who don't have an option of upgrading to a supported processor.
