Hi,

I am trying to get an understanding of how many messages a single Exchange Transport or Edge Transport server can process per second or concurrently. I understand that it is relative to the amount of resource that is assigned to the server but roughly how many is it capable of processing at the same time so that I can work out how many servers need to be built. I have the metrics on the environment I am working on an considering the environment will need to be capable of processing at least 20 messages per second. Can a couple of servers manage this load?

Thanks,

Mike

It's hard to say how many servers are enough for processing 20 messages per second, due to Bucket effect, the performance for your environment may be affected by various reasons.
Take a look at this Exchange calculator, this would help you plan your server configuration: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/released-exchange-2013-server-role-requirements-calculator/ba-p/593922

Hi, thanks for the response Eric.

I have used the exchange calculator but it does not allow you to isolate requirements for the transport component. Seems to only allow you configure all of the components including mailbox hosting.

Yes, as I said, those things are hard to estimate.
