Good afternoon,

I am setting up our own WSUS and WECM on two 2022 Servers and am getting this error in the SUPSetup.log file:
<Wed Oct 20 15:06:12 2021> SMSWSUS Setup Started....

<Wed Oct 20 15:06:12 2021> Installation Failed. Error Code: 136
<Wed Oct 20 15:06:12 2021> ~RoleSetup().

I thought I had updated the SQL NativeClient on the server though it still says it needs updating. I installed the WSUS role from the server but it says it needs a supported version, is it wanting me to downgrade?

Any ideas or direction to proceed? I am new to setting up these in-house, we used to use a third-party company and decided to bring in house.

I made the change and restarted the WSUS/IIS server and tried to add the SUP on the ECM and got the same error message.

    My setup is:
Server 2022 running WSUS/IIS on the network in a HyperV VM
Server 2022 running SQL Server & MECM on a HyperV VM same host as the WSUS server

Seems like the servers don't see each other.

Both are fully patched, SQL is updated. Not sure why it keeps saying the wrong version of WSUS installed, it is the most current version from the server unless it is looking for it on the ECM server which it shouldn't be I would think. I have the machines detected on the ECM but the client won't install. Needless to say, there are a few errors that are probably simple and holding everything back.

The same error message seems to repeat every hour or so

I have looked to see if there was a place to download perhaps the versions I need that it is looking for without success.

Sorry for the delay. I was out of the office last week so I could not response in time. We're very sorry for any inconvenience that may caused.

Please try to remove the SUP and the installed WSUS role and then reinstall the new ones if you haven't tried before. Note that the SUP and WSUS role have to be installed on the same server and we have to install the WSUS role before adding the SUP role.

    Regards,
    Rita

That might be the issue I have them on two different servers. The WSUS server has only WSUS, the SUP was installed on the configuration manager server. I didn't see the option to install on the WSUS server.

I will be adding the WSUS role to the MECM server later in two weeks. Is this a Microsoft best practice with this version?
