Will Windows 11 work if I upgrade from an unactivated Windows 10 device?

I installed windows 10 without the product key (via USB) and my device meets the required specifications of windows 11. If I upgrade to windows 11 now, will I be able to use it unactivated or will it prompt me to activate first?

    Yes with limitations you will be able to use it.

    Limitations are;

    • Activate Windows watermark
    • Activation message at Windows Settings
    • No personalization settings
    • Frequent notification to activate Windows

    You might be able to upgrade but you will see activation error and your Windows 11 won't be activated.

    Hi @Debarshi Polley ,

    you should be able to run the unactivated Windows 11 with limitations. For instance: You are not able to do personalizations like changing wallpapers, themes, accent colors. Also some features and apps might not be available.

    From a legal perspective: Users are allowed to update a licensed Windows 10 to Windows 11. This means you need to have a license for Windows 10 (or Windows 11) before update.
