Hello,

we have an issue with 2022 RDS CAL downgrade to Server 2019 RDS CAL. The Downgrade succeeded via TSLM, but if we enter the License Key on the Server 2022 License Server the License is shown as 2022 RDS CAL, not as 2019 RDS CAL. The RDSH Servers are 2019 Servers, and the RDS CAL used on the license Server were from 2019. Why are the Licenses are not shown as 2019 as we downgraded the Keys from 2022 via Clearing House to 2019?

Following a Image to show the problem, that 2019 Licenses are used from the session hosts and shown as not correctly licensed.

You can't use RDS CALs for earlier versions to access later versions of Windows Server, but you can use later versions of RDS CALs to access earlier versions of Windows Server.

Thanks for the response. Actually I'm using a later version of RDS CAL's (2022) for Windows Server 2019 like the help article shows and in the screenshot is shown. Licenses are correctly assigned "per user". The problem is that the license manager shows 2019 licenses are used and not the 2022 licenses. But why?

    Best regards

Did you find the solution to this Andreas? We are having the same issue with 2022 RDS CALs not being allocated to 2019 server users.

    Thanks

Solution to this was to use another 2019 Server (not 2022) then install RDS License Manager on it. Change the connection method to Telephone and then call Microsoft (just like the good old days).

After navigating through many automated questions you will eventually get through to a real person who can downgrade the 2022 RDS CALS to 2019 for you.
