Save changes to the same document

In the company we have documents in folders on the server which some are shared and others are not, those that are not shared, not having anyone else editing the file should let me save the changes in the same document, but now when I make changes in A file that I did not make, it asks me to save it with another name, this did not happen to us before, before we only saved the changes and it was overwritten, now we must save the file with another name, delete the original and keep the new one. Can you tell me how I can fix this to how it was before or if it is already a change that was established?
