want to know what device use the IP address

in my office , I found a internal IP address is used , but I do not know what device using this IP address , maybe PC , printer , router etc.

do not have ping response from this IP .

Would advise how to know what device is using a IP address ?

    In my time as an ambulant consultant I was often faced with such issues. No one knew. Might be some sort of appliance. Start off with rounding up the usual suspects. They often have open ports on SSH (22), telnet (23) or HTTP (80) and HTTPS (443).

    Start with using telnet, such as: telnet <IP address> 443. The answer you receive might give you a better idea. If that doesn't work, use a port scanner to find open ports.

    The Telnet tool is no installed by default on Windows 10. You have to add it in control panel, Programs and features.

    Hello Derek,

    There are several ways you can look into the details.

    ARP -A command will show nearby devices including the MAC address. You can also look in the DHCP server and it should show the IP address and the device name (NetBIOS Name, depending on what type of DHCP server)

    Also, as mentioned by JonAlfredSmith, running a port scan will help. NMAP is a very good program, it will not only run a port scan, it will also query the open ports and display a list of possible device types, OS types, etc.

    The last think you can do is block the IP address from connecting to the Internet using a router packet filtering rule and monitor the helpdesk line for the user's call, which likely will be within 5 minutes.

    May I know how did you find the IP address?

    And want to confirm if the methods provided by JonAlfredSmith-5004 and MiguelFra were helpful?

    If these methods weren't helpful, it’s hard to locate the device and verify the host name or MAC address via the IP address since you cannot ping the IP address successful.

    Another suggestion is you can install a Microsoft Tool "Network Monitor" and collect network traces to monitor if the source device would connect to the IP address which need to be verified. And then you may analyze the network traces to verify the IP address.
