Unable to purchase a domain (insufficient payment history?)

I am receiving this message when attempting to purchase a second domain:

"Resource cannot be created because the subscription doesn't have a sufficient payment history. Refer to docs for more info. https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2172552"

I already have one purchased domain on my account. I have a few months worth of paid invoices. I have an active credit card on file and it is set to auto-pay. What more do I need to establish a sufficient payment history? How come I was able to purchase and pay for one domain but cannot do another one?

I've seen a few reports of this. Basically your account can sometimes get "flagged" for odd reasons. You can wait a while like 12/24 hours and try again (if you haven't already). But I would recommend just doing a support ticket and getting them to check/verify you account and remove the flag.

@Brian K Thanks for asking question! You may want to know that App Service Domain recently introduced a new policy to require sufficient payment history prior to purchasing a domain. Without any payment history, your subscription will not pass the check that will allow your subscription to purchase any domains.

Could you see if you have any pending payment due or due date past on that subscription. you can follow this article to check invoice: View and download your Microsoft Azure invoice

Now I read the official response from Microsoft I see why. It's an old school sales technique. If you contact Microsoft about getting it resolved/added then they could try and coach you into buying more services.

Just had this issue and talked to Microsoft support about it.

Their current (March 2024) policy is that you must have spent at least $35 USD in the PREVIOUS month to buy a domain from Azure. IMO this policy is out of touch since this means it takes AT LEAST a month to buy a domain if you are a new customer.
