Background
We have an application that retrieves emails from mail servers including Exchange (on-prem and/or Exchange online).
Many customers are using it to automate their business processes by automatically downloading and processing emails.
Our application supports IMAP, POP, and EWS using Basic Authentication, and the current version supports MsGraph and Microsoft Modern Authentication.

Issue
We have communicated with our customers about the pending Oct 2022 disablement of Basic Authentication in Exchange Online, and have encouraged them to upgrade to our version that supports Microsoft Modern Authentication and MSGraph.

A few customers stated that they use Exchange in a hybrid configuration. They are wondering if they can continue to use Basic Authentication to connect to their on-prem exchange after the Oct 2022 change to Exchange Online. They are basically asking if they really need to upgrade. I do not have Exchange in a hybrid configuration to test this.

Question
Will BASIC AUTH still be allowed to authenticate to on-prem Exchange which is used in a hybrid setup after Oct 2022?

Yes, absolutely. The change in ExO will not affect basic auth to on-prem Exchange. The apps will continue to connect to Exch on-prem and then the messages can be routed as they are now to Exchange Online.

It is funny that you say that Andy,
I am already experiencing issues when installing or upgrading users to Office 2019 stand alone. The outlook client refuses to connect to my on-premise exchange server and insists on asking users to login with their non-existent MS Account.
I am forced to carry out 3 separate registry edits on each users devices to stop that behavior
It is becoming frustrating and I am afraid what will happen when MS completely shuts of Basic Auth
Do you have any suggestions or insights
PS...before October 2022 there were no issues with the installations. It is likely that recent office updates are making changes to how they connect
