Kiosk Edge - Opening Links in a new window

Question

Hi I'm setting up Edge to replace internet explorer as our go to Kiosk solution.

We have a particular website that we load in full screen, we remove tabs and the ability to "escape" from the website rendered in full screen.

Usually people browse this site, there are links on the site that open pdfs in a new window when clicked.

Setting up in Edge with Fullscreen Kiosk mode mostly produces the results I'm after but when you click on a link that takes you to a pdf it opens within the edge window and you can never navigate out of it or leave the page. Is there a way to force edge in Kiosk mode to open links in a new window?

I've looked at the GPOs available and can't find this setting, I've also looked at Configure Microsoft Edge kiosk mode | Microsoft Learn to no avail.

I've also looked at the relevant documentation and group policy, and I'm afraid that you can't implement such a requirement. Using Kiosk mode is intended to enhance control and management. Your requirements seem to be against the design.

And I did some tests, it can only open new pages in the same window, so you can only browse one page, all you can do is go back to the previous page or go to the next page.

Hi,

I have the same issue that @E R 1903

I've tried to enable the option Assigns the Backspace key to go back a page like @XuDong Peng-MSFT advised but it doesn't work when Edge is launched with --kiosk --edge-kiosk-type=fullscreen

How can we open a new window even if Edge is launched in kiosk mode ?
