I have a file full of registry editors and command prompts that will not function properly after multiple resets of my computer. For some reason my Cwindowsdistribution folder goes straight to this file containing the command prompts and registry changers and will not run properly now. It gives me “the windows update service is not started” and “the system cannot find the specified file” it also says, “system error 5 has occurred” and “more help is available by typing NET Helpmsg 2182
I have tried everything involving bits and windows update settings and restarts and still nothing.

The standard Windows Update folder is "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution".

It would appear that something on your PC is trying to do something with that folder but has an error in it and is missing the colon and backslash characters.

You should start by right clicking on those Batch Files and select "Edit". That will launch Notepad and will show you the contents of the files. Look for any reference to "SoftwareDistribution".
