Hi,

Microsoft announced maintenance mode for the AIP UL Client: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/security-compliance-and-identity/announcing-aip-unified-labeling-client-maintenance-mode-and/ba-p/3043613

But the article fails to mention what that truly means and how do we proceed from this point onwards.

  1. We are starting an AIP project...so do we still deploy the AIP UL client or not?
  2. If MS is not recommending the deployment of the AIP UL client, then what other AIP client are we expected to deploy? Or will the AIP client now ship with the Operating System? or Office? or what?
  3. What does this mean for all the other file types where Generic Protection was used? e.g. CSV, etc...Can we still use the File Explorer (right click) Option?
  4. We are also about to deploy the on-premises AIP Scanner server which uses the AIP UL client....what does this decision mean for the AIP Scanner then?
  5. What about existing deployments of the AIP UL client - do we now need to uninstall the client from all endpoints?

Where can we get more detailed clarity around this announcement please?

Thank you.

    @Shim Kwan

    Thank you for reaching out to us. I completely understand these questions when AIP UL client in maintenance mode.

    I feel that there is a confusion around the announcement. AIP Client components include the addin, right click, viewer and PowerShell module.

    While all of these remain in maintenance mode with no additional feature improvements. They are still supported and customers can and should use them based on the use cases that require them.
