Hi Team,

We're deploying the DR instances on the SAP system , facing the following challenges are there.

  1. While Deploying the ASR method on the Application system(s4Hana, PIPO) the Private and Public IP can't be make as a reserved. It's keep on the changing every time when failover enabled to DR.( Challenges: we're having huge numbers of API integrated with other system and difficult to switch everything on the new IP and other configuration)
  2. If failover happened , Once the ASR instance is up and running primary is getting deleted automatically.
  3. When we're switching back to the primary instance and it's creating a new machine based on the last restore point and that time it's again taking a new IP's in the particular subnet both Private & Public.

Please suggest on the options or best configuration method to reserve the same IP, when we move to DR.

Thanks

@Dharmendra Kumar-FT Thank you for reaching out to us!

I see that you are planning for DR for your SAP systems and wanting to reserve IP addresses during failover. It is possible to retain IP address (Private IP addressing) in the target region identical to the source region. The private IP is replicated within the target region the same as the source. Ref doc: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/site-recovery-retain-ip-azure-vm-failover

However, the Public IPs are not transferrable. A new region would require a new Public IP. Workloads brought up as part of failover process must be assigned an Azure Public IP resource available in the target region.
    Reference URL - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/concepts-public-ip-address-with-site-recovery#public-ip-address-assignment-using-recovery-plan

You can look at introducing Traffic manager which will handle the region based traffic shift by keeping the URL same. For more detail refer to "Public endpoint switching with DNS level Routing" and failover scenarios with Traffic Manager section.

    Hope this helps!
