Hi,

Our domain systems are communicating to the WSUS correctly; however, the approved updates do not show up in the client machines or get installed. While manually checking for updates, they will throw up error (0x80245006). Below is the WindowsUpdate.log from one of the client machines.

    Problem/Symptom:
    Device failed to get updates from WSUS Server. Error code 0x80245006

    Solution/Workaround:
    The issue was due to dual scan. Do not enable both of group Policies on the device:
    Select when Preview Builds and Feature Updates are received
    Select when Quality Updates are received

    Based on your suggestion to check the update source, I found that the client machines were not getting updates from WSUS and the issue was due to dual scan. I set the below policies to "Not Configured" and everything is working fine now. Thanks for your input.

    • Select when Preview Builds and Feature Updates are received
    • Select when Quality Updates are received

    Thanks for your posting on Q&A.

    How many devices encounter this issue? It seems that you have enabled the SSL in your environment. Please try to check the connection between the WSUS Server and the affected device.
    Open IE browser on the affected device and post the following:

    https://WSUSServer:8531/selfupdate/iuident.cab  
    

    You will get a .cab file if the connection is OK.

    In addition, please try to run the below PowerShell script on the affected devices and check the update source:

    $MUSM = New-Object -ComObject "Microsoft.Update.ServiceManager"  
       
    $MUSM.Services | select Name, IsDefaultAUService  
    

    I noticed that the device is tried to connect the Microsoft to get updates but failed in the log file. So it is recommended to check the update source.
