Hi, Just wondering if anyone can tell me why there was a new release for Laps in March 2022 that has the same version as the previous release but has a new GUID. None of the documentation with it has been updated. the new file is 1.07MB and the old is 996kB.

Are there release notes for the changes anywhere?

you can see in image 3 that there are file size differences, so it does look like something has been changed. ( just not the version)

Hi @Paul Klerkx - I updated the LAPS bits back in March 2022. The reason we had to do the update was the older bits were signed with SHA1. There is an internal MSFT engineering requirement to have all items on download center be signed with SHA256. For LAPS, this meant I had to re-build and re-sign all of the binaries, along with (obviously) re-building and re-signing the MSI itself. I believe the SHA256 signing caused a slight file size growth in the binaries and MSI - sorry that this has caused you alarm. I will update the LAPS download center text to call this detail out for others, and will remember to update it in future if we ever rev the bits again.

As I recall, there was zero actual code change in the update other than some minor code cleanup (for example, variable initialization) to satisfy compiler checks.

    Hope this helps,
    Jay

    Hi @Limitless Technology
Thanks for the answer, however, that is the same link from my message and you repeated for both answers. I was wanting release notes ("what's new") for the new MSI. The downloadable documents on that page are what I referred to as unchanged - E.G. LAPS_TechnicalSpecification.docx, LAPS_Datasheet.docx and LAPS_OperationsGuide.docx have last modified dates from either 2015 or 2018 so don't have any information about the March 2022 release. The general information on that page also appears unchanged. The only thing that appears to have been modified is the MSI, that is what I'd like information on.

As an example, you can see that the files PS.Module, PS.Module.formats, PS.Module.shared and PS.Module.Help have all increased in size, suggesting to me that there have been changes/additions to the available powershell commands for Laps - what are they , where are they documented.
Is Powershell the only change to Laps? ADMPwd.dll has gotten bigger, why, is it just to accomodate the new powershell commands or are there other changes.
