Azure, Deployment Git - unable to create file 'xxxx' Filename too long

Hi,

I'm a newbie when it comes to Azure, not really my field of expertise. I'm just using it to host my blog site.

I have a web app, in it I have a Wordpress site running.

In the "deployment center" I have configured it to be in sync with a bitbucket repository.

The last plugin I've installed in Wordpress: "WP-optimize" is giving me problems. When the web app tries to synchronize with the bitbucket repository I get the following error:
"error: unable to create file wp-content/plugins/wp-optimize/vendor/rosell-dk/webp-convert/src/Convert/Exceptions/ConversionFailed/ConverterNotOperational/SystemRequirementsNotMetException.php: Filename too long\n"
So any change I make in the bitbucket repo isn't going to get synced because it's stuck in this error.

How can I fix this? Is it possible to change the way long file names are handled so that this file can get through?

Thanks for reaching here! Could you please check if you are hitting paths limits. msysgit only supports paths up to 260 chars (even though Windows supports much longer paths).

Hi,

I have tried to change Git configuration. In Kudu (AppService -> Advanced tools -> go) I start the power shell and run this command: "git config --system core.longpaths true"
However I get this error: "error: could not lock config file D:/Program Files/Git/etc/gitconfig: Permission denied"

If I run this: "git config --global core.longpaths true"
I also get this error: "error: could not lock config file D:/Program Files/Git/etc/gitconfig: Permission denied"

How can I change this in the Azure portal?

Thanks for reply! You need to be in admin mode to execute the command (in cmd terminal or in PowerShell (Admin) on windows). Also check this discussion might be helpful in resolving the permission issue.

Hi,

You're answer doesn't make much sense.

In the link you've pointed me to they are trying to solve the issue on a desktop environment which isn't my case, I'm trying to do it on Azure, through the Azure portal. Also they're running on a Ubuntu system, my Azure is running on Windows.

I know I need to be in admin mode to run the command, question is, how am I able to run a powershell on Azure in admin mode.

As you need admin role to run command on Kudu you may want to know that Azure role-based access control (Azure RBAC) is the authorization system you may use to manage access to Azure resources.

To grant access, you assign roles to users, groups, service principals, or managed identities at a particular scope.

Please note that to assign Azure roles, you must have: Microsoft.Authorization/roleAssignments/write permissions, such as User Access Administrator or Owner.

Hi again,

Looks like I already have the admin role. I followed your suggestion (followed the instructions in the last link you posted) and in the end got a message saying that role was already assigned to my user.
So that doesn't seem to change anything.

Just to confirm, I went back again to Kudu, run the command:
"git config --global core.longpaths true"

and got the same message:
"error: could not lock config file D:/home/.gitconfig: Permission denied"

Any other suggestion?
