Why is Onedrive managing my data without my consent?

For the benefit of many others who seem to have encountered similar issues with OneDrive, I would like to formally lodge a complaint with Microsoft. It appears there are several serious problems with OneDrive that need to be addressed.

1. Unauthorized Relocation of Files
First and foremost, I never granted permission for OneDrive to relocate my files to its servers. Backing up files is one thing, but relocating and deleting my files is entirely different—and something I did not consent to. I was neither asked for permission nor informed that this would happen. Since OneDrive was pre-installed on my PC, I wasn’t even aware that it was managing my data.

2. Forced Subscriptions Due to Limited Storage
As I mentioned, my data was unknowingly stored on OneDrive, and the 5GB of free storage was quickly filled. Because I also use Outlook, I found that in order to send and receive emails, I was essentially forced to purchase an upgraded storage plan. This is an underhanded tactic, effectively soft-forcing users into subscriptions—a vile strategy in my opinion.

Since I wasn’t aware my data was being stored entirely on OneDrive, I initially thought I could simply delete the files in OneDrive, assuming I still had them saved locally on my PC. However, when I deleted the files from OneDrive, they were also deleted from my PC.

3. Unauthorized File Deletion
When did I ever authorize Microsoft to relocate, manage, or delete my personal data? Upon further investigation, it seems this behavior stems from OneDrive’s so-called "folder protection" feature. For reference: Superuser link. Normal users are often unaware of this issue, which seems to be a common problem. This experience has been frustrating, invasive, and misleading. As a result, I have lost valuable data and time, and the process of investigating how this could have happened has caused me significant stress. I demand that my data be fully restored or that I receive appropriate compensation.
