Hello Matthias,
Thank you for your post to the Forum.
OneDrive does allow sharing files and folders with people who don’t have a Microsoft account, but there are some caveats when it comes to albums and certain privacy settings:
Why It Might Not Be Working
- Album Format: If you're trying to share an album (as created within the Photos tab of OneDrive), it may behave differently than a regular folder. Albums are more like curated views and may require sign-in to preserve layout and metadata.
- Link Settings: If your OneDrive is managed by an organization (school, work, etc.), external sharing might be restricted. That means only people with Microsoft accounts or even only people within your organization can view shared content.
- Expired or Restricted Links: If you previously shared the album and the link expired or was set to “specific people,” it won’t work for general access.
- To share with people who don’t have a Microsoft account:
Create a Folder in OneDrive.
Move or Copy the Photos from the album into that folder.
Share the Folder using a link with “Anyone with the link can view” permissions.
This workaround gives you more control and ensures that anyone regardless of account can access the photos.
