Add shortcut to OneDrive as guest user

If I am a guest user in a tenant, can I link files to my OneDrive using “Add shortcut to OneDrive”, or is this only possible via “Sync”?

From my research, "Add shortcut to OneDrive" links the external folder to your internal work or school OneDrive folder structure. Since your identity in the guest tenant is separate from your home tenant's OneDrive structure, this linking operation fails. 

For guest access, the recommended and reliable method for deep, persistent access to shared folders is to use the "Sync" button.

• When you click "Sync", the content is synchronized to a separate, dedicated folder on your local machine. This folder is typically named something like "OneDrive - [Guest Company Name]". This keeps the files separate from your own organization's OneDrive files, respecting the guest identity boundaries.
• Result: The files will be accessible in your local File Explorer, but they will not be integrated into your primary OneDrive web structure.
