Hi Hans-Ulrich Seifert,
Good day. I'm Jhun an independent advisor. This behavior of your Microsoft 365 and application is more likely casused by corrupted cached credentials or a broken Office licensing service. Since your subscription is active online, the problem is on the PC. Try to do these steps in order at see if it will fix the problem.
A. Sign out of Office.
- Open Word and go to File > Account.
- Click Sign out and sign out of all accounts shown.
- Close ALL Office apps.
- Then restart your PC.
- Try signing in again.
- If it still loops, continue to step B.
B. Remove stored Windows credentials. Windows may be storing a corrupted token.
- Press Windows+R.
- Type: control /name Microsoft.CredentialManager
- Open Windows Credentials
- Remove ALL entries related to: MicrosoftOffice, ADAL, OneAuth, Outlook, Microsoft 365, MSOID, Teams.
- Only remove Microsoft-related credentials — leave others alone.
- Restart the PC.
- Try Word again.
C. Reset Office activation, using Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant.
- Download at: https://aka.ms/SaRA-OfficeActivation
- Run it and choose: Office > I have Office installed, but I'm having trouble activating it.
- Let the app repair the activation. This fixes most login loops.
D. Check Office licensing service.
- Press Windows+R.
- Type: services.msc
- Look for Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service.
- Make sure: Status = Running Startup type = Automatic
- If not, right-click > Start.
E. Perform an Online Repair.
- Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select Microsoft 365
- Click Change.
- Choose Online Repair.
- This will reinstalls the licensing components completely.
D. Check Date & Time. Incorrect system time can cause activation loops. Restart PC and try.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Jhun
