Configure the System for Component Services

After you install the operating system, you must configure the system to enable Component Services administration on your network. You enable administrator control for the System Application. You also configure Component Services to recognize your network by making computers visible to Component Services and enabling component communication across computer boundaries by configuring DCOM. These configuration requirements are crucial to proper administration of Component Services.

Depending on the needs of your system, it might be necessary to perform configuration tasks beyond the tasks that are described in the topics in this section. Although you may be able to configure the following properties at a later time, it is important to be aware of them early:
The Component Services snap-in requires the Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC) service to be running; therefore, you must configure the DTC. For more information, see Manage Distributed Transactions.
