MDM folder size is more than 30 GB

Question

System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\mdm

in this folder there are about 500 files each file has the same exact size

the user is having low disk space issues, I did disk cleanup but not enough

can I delete the content of this folder?

@Saif Thanks for posting in our Q&A.

Downloaded MSI packages are stored in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\mdm, so we can find the MSI there. Typically the size and date are good ways to determine which one is the package we're looking for.

After the MSI is installed on the device by the intune management extension, it would normally clean up this folder. It seems that old installation files that failed to be installed are still in this folder. Based on my understanding, it should be safe to delete them.

Before deciding to delete the contents of this folder, consider the following:

First, try to determine which app or service created the files. This may require you to review recently installed or updated software, or to review system logs.

If the files were created by an app or service, make sure that the app or service no longer needs them. Sometimes, apps leave these files behind after updating or uninstalling.

Windows' built-in Disk Cleanup and Disk Management tools can help identify and remove unnecessary files and optimize disk space, but they may not directly address specific folders under AppDataLocal.

If you're sure that these files are no longer needed and that no system processes or critical services are using them, you can try deleting them. But be sure to make a backup before deleting it, just in case something goes wrong after deletion and you need to restore it.
