Windows 11 – Second monitor loosing identity.

Hi,

I have a windows 11 desktop with 2 Asus monitors. One of the monitors is connected to the HDMI port and the second monitor is connected to the display port.

When the desktop goes to sleep the monitor connected to the display port loses its identity. Using Device Manager – the identity changes from “Generic Monitor (VE248)” to “MS EDID Override” and as a result the scaling on the monitor changes.

Rebooting the PC resets the monitor back to “Generic Monitor (VE248)” and the scaling is fixed.

I’ve checked that the latest drivers are installed for the monitors and the display adaptors.

I’ve checked that the latest version of windows is installed - Windows 11 Home, 23H2, OS Build 22631.3880.

I’ve checked that the latest BIOS version 3603 is installed on the ASUS Prime Z690-A Motherboard.

I’ve checked that the latest Intel Graphics drivers are installed - 31.0.101.5592 (WHQL Certified) for Intel® Arc™ A-Series Graphics, Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics, and Intel® Core™ Ultra Processors with Intel® Arc™ Graphics.

What can I do to fix this annoying problem?

Thanking you in advance, Dave

    Hello Parkie,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where your monitor connected via Display Port isn't being correctly recognized after your computer wakes from sleep.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

1.Update Graphics Drivers: Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. You can do this through the Device Manager or by downloading the latest drivers from your GPU manufacturer's website (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel). You have checked it.

2.Check Power Settings: Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings. Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan, then Change advanced power settings.

Look for settings related to the display and PCI Express and make sure they are configured to avoid power saving states that might cause this issue.

3.Disable Fast Startup: Sometimes Windows' Fast Startup feature can cause issues with peripheral recognition.

Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.

Scroll down and uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended) and save changes.

4.Check Display Port Cable and Connections: Ensure that the DisplayPort cable is securely connected to both your monitor and your desktop. Try using a different DisplayPort cable to determine if the cable might be faulty.

5.Monitor's Firmware: Some monitors have firmware updates that can resolve connectivity issues. Check your monitor's manual or the manufacturer’s website to see if a firmware update is available.

6.Test the Monitor: Try connecting the DisplayPort monitor to a different DisplayPort on your computer if available.

Connect the DisplayPort monitor to a different computer to see if the issue persists.

7.Windows Settings: - Go to Settings > System > Display and see if the display is detected after waking up. If not, click on Detect under the Multiple displays section to manually attempt to detect the monitor.

8.BIOS/UEFI Settings: Check your BIOS/UEFI settings for any options related to display outputs, and ensure they are configured correctly.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, maybe there could be a hardware-specific compatibility problem that might require contacting Asus support for your monitors or your desktop's manufacturer for further assistance.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou
