Adding hyperlinks in Word, odd behavior

Sometimes when I add a hyperlink to a Word 2010 doc, the link is applied to the wrong text. Here's an example:

"We were among the first health systems to publicly share patient ratings and comments on our website. Physicians see all the comments..."

I selected "on our website" used Ctrl-K to add the URL, and hit Okay. But instead of "on our website" showing up in blue to indicate the link, "website. Physi" got the hyperlink. I checked: when I right clicked and selected Edit hyperlink, the text "on our website" showed up in the Text to display section of the dialog box.

When this happens, the only way to add the URL to the correct text is to copy the URL to another document, copy and paste special (Text only) the sentence, and then add the URL.

Some documents do this, others add URLs just fine.

Any thoughts on what is going on?

Selecting the text and pressing Ctrl+Spacebar would be a shortcut for removing the Hyperlink character style. But I'm wondering if this is purely a display issue. You might try disabling hardware graphics acceleration (File | Options | Advanced: Display).

Good thought, Suzanne, but Tracked Changes is off. I always know when this is going to happen. It's presaged by this behavior: When I right click on some hyperlinked text and choose "Remove Hyperlink" the link disappears by the text remains blue and underlined (the font format I use for unclicked links). I then have to select the text, choose Automatic Color and remove the underline.

    Weird.

I'm wondering if Track Changes is turned on in the document. It's a long shot, but it seems like that might result in the text selection being misunderstood.
