Hi, does any one know why, when I click on my edge icon on my desktop it opens edge (naturally), however then it places a new edge icon on the task bar with a head and shoulders inside it, I just wondered what the head and shoulders was for, as the icon itself has a blue line under it to signify that the icon(edge) is open, so it wont be that will it?

Hi MartinManion1, My name is Jeremy, a Windows Independent Adviser. I'll be happy to help you out today. Let’s see what I can do.

I understand that it is a bit uncomfortable seeing repeated icons running on the taskbar, let me try my best to help you

Can you try to close all running edge, make sure it's not running,

then unpin from the taskbar your current Edge, so totally, your edge now is not on the taskbar,

then again, Open your start menu and right-click Edge > More > select "pin to taskbar"

Then again try opening edge and let's see if it will be doubled-icon

If that didn't work, try this instead

    Follow these simple steps:

    1. Open Edge
    2. After having 2 edge icon on the taskbar, Unpin the icon that is not open
    3. Right-click the other, ( the one which is open) and then choose "pin from taskbar"

Then restart your computer, it will then removed the 2nd edge icon with a head and shoulder Icon

Let me know how it goes

    Kind regards,

    Jeremy

As always Jeremy I appreciate your help but I will leave this one for now, its not hurting anything, and sometimes when I start "messing" I make things worse.

    Kind regards

Hi MartinManion1, I believe that there some users are experiencing the same things as yours, however, these taskbar icons get duplicated when a shortcut is pinned to the taskbar, rather than the program itself.

Sometimes we’ve run into situations where this doesn’t resolve the problem. There’s usually a hidden shortcut that is being referenced by the running program. In this case, the solution is to “Show Hidden Files” in Windows Explorer and navigate to the system path for taskbar shortcuts. Press Windows key + R then copy/paste this path:

    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

there you can attempt deleting the shortcut manually, and re-adding it once again.

Hi Jeremy, I have done all the things you have said and nothing worked, so what I do is not have a edge icon on the task bar, I just use the one on the desktop page to open the edge browser, though then it puts one on the task bar, my question is when ther edge browser is open does everyone else have a edge icon on the taskbar that is underlined in light blue, and does every one else have the head and shoulders inside that icon.
