Enabling "Edit in App" for external users

We have an Excel workbook that is located on a SharePoint site. When sharing this file with colleagues, the "Edit in App" option appears and we can use macro buttons in the workbook. However, when sharing it with people external to our organization, they are reporting that there is not "Edit in App" option after opening it in their browser, and they can't use any of the macro buttons in the workbook.

How do we enable those outside our organization to have the "Edit in App" option?

Kind regards

Cornel

Hello Cornel,

To allow the external users to use Edit in Desktop app feature for the shared files, you need to give the access via Direct Access instead of sharing the file.

Open the Document Library> Right-click on the file> Manage Access> Direct Access with Edit permission.

Note: Please add the external users as a Guest Users into the organization.

Regards,

Chitrahaas
