Changes coming to Microsoft Q&A

We're excited to announce that in February 2025 the Microsoft Support Community's Windows Server and Windows Client for IT Pros forums joined Microsoft Q&A. As part of this transition, most of the existing content from these forums migrated to Microsoft Q&A. Additionally, new features, such as hierarchical tagging, were introduced to Microsoft Q&A to create a stronger platform for community support.

Please refer to this page for updates on Microsoft Q&A changes and the migration.

FAQ

Do I have to make a new profile to use Microsoft Q&A?

Profiles cannot be migrated over to Microsoft Q&A, so creating a Microsoft Learn Profile is required. This guide walks you through the steps to set up your profile, update your display name, public profile URL, manage email preferences, profile privacy settings, and other preferences.

What is going to happen to the content on the Microsoft Support Community?

The migration process will be conducted in multiple phases. Threads selected for migration will first be placed in a locked state on the Microsoft Support Community. They will then be migrated to Microsoft Q&A, where they will also remain locked.

I'm a moderator in the Microsoft Support Community, how can I be a moderator on Microsoft Q&A?

Moderators from the Microsoft Support Community are invited to continue being moderators on Microsoft Q&A. Follow the process described in the Microsoft Q&A moderators article.

What will happen to the tagging experience?

Microsoft Q&A previously used a "free form" tagging experience where a question author could select up to 5 tags as necessary. The new tagging system uses a hierarchy to help route a question to the most appropriate experts. An author will create only 1 hierarchical tag.

What will happen to questions using the old tagging experience?

Existing questions using the “free form” tagging experience will persist. Making edits to these questions will require using the new hierarchical tagging system.
