In Q4 2025, Instant Access Snapshot became available in public preview for Premium SSD v2 and Ultra Disks. You can restore new disks immediately after creating snapshots of Premium SSD v2 and Ultra Disks. To optimize costs, you can start with smaller disks and gradually increase their storage capacity as needed, without experiencing downtime. Ultra Disk price reduction in West US 2, Central US, and UK South in Q3 2025
In Q3 2025, Ultra Disk prices decreased in West US 2, Central US, and UK South. The price reduction improves cost efficiency for performance-sensitive and mission-critical workloads while providing the same high-performance storage. Generally available: Availability set support for Premium SSD v2 in Q2 2025
In Q2 2025, availability set support for Premium SSD v2 became generally available. Availability sets enhance application availability by distributing virtual machines and their Premium SSD v2 disks across multiple fault domains, which reduces the risk of a single point of failure. Premium SSD v2 provides low latency, consistent performance, flexible scalability, and cost efficiency for enterprise workloads such as SAP, SQL Server, and Oracle. Combining availability sets with Premium SSD v2 can improve availability, performance, and cost optimization for critical applications. Generally available: Convert existing disks to Premium SSD v2 disks in Q4 2024
In Q4 2024, direct conversion from Standard HDD, Standard SSD, and Premium SSD disks to Premium SSD v2 became generally available. This feature makes it easier to move your workloads to Premium SSD v2 and take advantage of its balance of price and performance. Generally available: Expand Ultra Disks and Premium SSD v2 without downtime in Q4 2024
In Q4 2024, expanding Ultra Disks and Premium SSD v2 disks without downtime became generally available. This feature allows you to dynamically increase storage capacity without disrupting existing applications. For instructions, see Expand a Windows OS disk or Expand disks on a Linux virtual machine.

Generally available: LastOwnershipUpdateTime disk property in Q2 2024
In Q2 2024, the LastOwnershipUpdateTime disk property became generally available in the Azure portal, Azure PowerShell, and Azure CLI. This property records when a disk's state last changed. Use it with diskState to identify a disk's current state and when that state was last updated. For more information, see the Azure update or Find unattached Azure managed and unmanaged disks.

Generally available: Azure Backup support for virtual machines with Ultra Disks and Premium SSD v2 in Q1 2024
In Q1 2024, Azure Backup support for virtual machines using Ultra Disks and Premium SSD v2 became generally available in all regions that support those disk types. Ultra Disks and Premium SSD v2 offer high throughput, high IOPS, and low latency. Azure Backup helps ensure business continuity and supports recovery from disasters or ransomware attacks. Generally available: Trusted launch support for Ultra Disks and Premium SSD v2 in Q1 2024
In Q1 2024, trusted launch support for virtual machines using Ultra Disks and Premium SSD v2 became generally available. You can combine the foundational compute security of trusted launch with the high throughput, high IOPS, and low latency of Ultra Disks and Premium SSD v2. In Q4 2023, encryption at host became generally available for Premium SSD v2 and Ultra Disks. It was previously available only for Standard HDDs, Standard SSDs, and Premium SSDs. For more information, see Encryption at host for virtual machine data.

Public preview: New latency metrics in Q4 2023

In Q1 2023, the performance plus feature became available in public preview. Performance plus increases IOPS and throughput limits for Premium SSDs, Standard SSDs, and Standard HDDs that are 513 GiB and larger. More transactions at no extra cost for Standard SSDs in Q1 2023
In Q1 2023, an hourly limit was added to the number of Standard SSD transactions that can incur a billable cost. Transactions beyond that limit don't incur a cost. For more information, see the announcement or Standard SSD transactions.
