I've spent years building my custom dictionary in Word but I can't find its location to save it. I want to transfer the words to a dictionary on my work macbook. Where is RoamingCustom.Dic and how do I transfer it or its contents. Thank you!

In Windows, CustomRoaming.dic is stored at C:\Users[YourActualUserName]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\16.0[7DigitRandomHexNumber]\Proofing

In Word for Mac, the custom dictionary is stored in the hidden user Library folder. To open this:

    1. Hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu in the macOS menu bar.
    2. Click on Library. Your user Library folder opens.
    3. Navigate to ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office.
    4. The custom dictionary is a text file called Custom Dictionary.

I tested, and you can delete the default Custom Dictionary file, then copy CustomRoaming.dic into the same location and rename it Custom Dictionary (no file ending). It's working here.

    Hi @Naveen Athuluru

Could you please tell us which version of Office do you have?

If you want to transfer ‘Roamingcustom.dic’ from Windows to Mac, please locate to %appdata%\Microsoft\Proof or %appdata%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\<folders with string>\Proofing to have a check.

If you are using an enterprise version of Office, such as Microsoft 365 for enterprise, this ‘Roamingcustom.dic’ may be set up by your organization to a specific roaming location, such as the cloud.

To add dictionary, please check whether the article is helpful. "Use a custom dictionary in Office for Mac". User's image
