Missing text boxes when viewing on Google doc

I have been creating my resume on Word and only today that I found out that because of some compatibility issues my text boxes went missing when viewed on gmail, google doc and other versions of Word. When I open my file on Word online app, my text boxes move all over the place! I am using Microsoft 365 Version 2006 btw.

Can someone help me fixing this issue and suggest what I should use to make my resume? I cannot trust Microsoft Word anymore.

    Hi Nnguye20,

Would you please provide us a screenshot about the text box “move all over the place” so that we can know better how the issue looks like.

Based on my test, the text box just stays where it should be.

In the meantime, I have sent a private message to you, you can provide us the sample file with the problem there, I can test and investigate more with it.

    Regards,

    Rena

The online versions are not capable of what-you-see-is-what-you-get, as I said previously.

Since the locally installed subscription version of Word/Office is OK, there isn't much you can do.

    Hi Stefan,

Putting Google aside, my document looks different on different versions of Word. I tried to open mine on Word online app, and the text boxes are all over the place. When I downloaded it back to my PC, the document looks ok on my Word.

Is there any settings on Word that I should turn on? Should I just never use textboxes on Word again just to be safe?

I'd suggest saving your original Word doc as a PDF and then submitting that to whoever you want to send your resume.

The whole point of using a PDF file is to preserve a document's formatting and visual appearance when viewing the document using a different operating system or application from that used to originally create the document.

Word Online, the web version, may not display document content properly, unless you switch to the reading view. This is a known limitation of Word Online (one of many limitations, frankly).

Note that when you are viewing documents in Google Docs, editing and viewing are both beyond the control of Microsoft.
