Hi jpcrew,
Thanks for reaching Microsoft Surface Community. Congratulations on your new Surface Pro 6! I'm sorry to hear with regards on your concern. Possibly, this is just a rare occurrence on your end. However, we do have some questions on where we can fully isolate the issue and some suggestions that we can try.
Have you tried to search using your Windows Icon on your taskbar and check if the Google Chrome is there?
When you tried to re-install it, what was the error message that you got?
Have you tried to delete the folders of it and do the re-installation?
Since this is just recent purchase, it would be better if you proceed on doing the steps below and try to do the re-installation of the Google Chrome.
Suggestion #1:
Do a Fresh Start
Fresh Start lets you perform a clean reinstallation and update of Windows while keeping your personal data and most Windows settings intact. In some cases, a clean installation may improve your device's startup and shutdown experience, memory usage, Microsoft Store apps performance, browsing experience, and battery life.
- To use Fresh Start, select Start Windows logo Start button > Settings Gear-shaped Settings icon > Update & security Circular arrows Sync icon > Windows Defender > Device performance & health. Under Fresh Start, select Additional info > Get Started.
- Note: Fresh Start will remove most of your apps, including Microsoft Office, third-party anti-virus software, and desktop apps that came pre-installed on your device. You will not be able to recover removed apps, and will need to manually reinstall these apps later. You may also lose your digital licenses and digital content associated with apps, which may impact your ability to use these apps or app-related content you paid for.
Suggestion #2:
Make sure you are up to date. You may directly go to Windows settings > update and security > check for updates. If their is a prompt below for "Download or install updates" kindly proceed on that.
I hope this helps, please keep us posted.
Regards,
Edd
