Microsoft Edge says "An error occurred. (Error code: 9) (Extra code: 0)" when updating

When I was trying to update Microsoft Edge on my Mac, I got an error message saying "An error occurred. (Error code: 9) (Extra code: 0)". Also, Microsoft Edge does not show up in the list of apps in the Microsoft AutoUpdate app on my Mac. I tried restarting the Mac but the error code is still there. This could be caused by a Microsoft Edge update server outage. ![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/ada853c2-f332-42e6-9a38-f683506da3ee?platform=QnA

I recently fixed the problem yesterday by turning on the "Optional diagnostic data" setting in the settings menu of Microsoft Edge for Mac and when I checked for updates, it said "Microsoft Edge is up to date". When I did the same thing today Microsoft Edge disappeared from the list of apps in the Microsoft AutoUpdate app on my Mac. The problem is caused by Microsoft Edge rolling out an improved update experience in the stable version of the browser for the Mac that no longer uses Microsoft AutoUpdate. As a result, the problem is now fixed.

The update was done automatically. I uninstalled Microsoft Edge and then reinstalled it. After reinstalling, Microsoft Edge then showed up in the updates list in the Microsoft AutoUpdate application for Mac but when I select "Check for Update" in the Help menu of Microsoft Edge, it still says "An error occurred. (Error code: 9) (Extra code: 0)".

Was the update done automatically or only after downloading the latest version from the browser's website? If it was necessary to force the update, I suggest that you uninstall Edge and then try to do the installation again to see if the error persists.

The Microsoft Edge browser on the Mac has been updated to version 100.0.1185.36 which is the current version. However, it still says "An error occurred. (Error code: 9) (Extra code: 0)" when checking for updates. It usually says "Microsoft Edge is up to date" when doing this.

Hi, my name is Anderson Souza, I hope I can help you with your issue.

In this case, you can download the latest version of Edge (MicrosoftEdge-100.0.1185.36) directly from the browser download site:
