Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Microsoft Office 365) includes Microsoft Office applications as part of its subscription service. When you subscribe to Microsoft 365, you gain access to familiar apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and others, along with cloud-based services. Therefore, Microsoft Office is not a separate subscription but is included within the Microsoft 365 subscription plans.

Some of the 365 subscriptions do not include the right to install Office apps locally on a PC (or Mac). These are the so-called Basic subscriptions (for home use or for business use) which offer additional OneDrive storage as well as mobile and web apps, but no desktop apps are included.

Microsoft 365 Personal or 365 Family are examples of consumer (home use) subscriptions which include the full versions of Office to be used on a computer (PC or Mac).

In addition, there are business / organization subscriptions of various types.
