Many thanks Karlie, but I solved the issue by wiping my PC and reloading a Public (non insider) version of Windows 11. Now working using the same settings and credentials.
Remote Desktop Connection ceased working but Remote Desktop App works when ran twice.
Hi,
I have Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview* and a couple of weeks ago (around 10th Feb) a connection to a Terminal (RD) Server I connect to regularly with the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Program (MSTSC.exe** ) stopped working with the message "The Login attempt failed". I have been through lots of trouble shooting with no success. I have loaded the Remote Desktop APP from the MS APP store and used the same credentials/gateway details and this works - but takes two attempts to connect every time and does not support printing or local drives. The Remote Desktop Connection works on any other computer I try it on in the building and other locations - just not on the one PC I need it to. I have found some Event ID: 1033 errors in the TerminalServices-ClientActiveXCore event log the text is "Component name:CClientProxyTransport, :: 'Gateway Error' in CClientProxyTransport::SetErrorStatus at 2853 err=[0x80070005], Error code:0x80070005" not sure how relevant these are. I am a bit out of my depth here - Microsoft support say they cannot support me due to the insider program and I am unsure what to do. I can't roll out of the insider program (Dev Track) without fully resetting my PC to factory defaults (want to avoid) so am a bit stuck. Certainly wish I had not signed up for insider ATM 😟 PS. My computer is Virus free (as far as I can tell and fully updated). I only use the standard Windows Firewall - no extra networking software should be getting in the way.
Can anyone please help direct me as to what I should do or/and where I should post to get some support on this please?
- Windows 11 Pro Build 26058.ge_release.240209-1555
** MS Remote Desktop Connection Ver 10.0.26058.1000
Many thanks
Andrew Loftus.

This issue is more likely an authentication issue. Your error code 0x80070005 means ACCESS DENIED, you can check in your gateway and terminal server and see if any settings lead to this issue. If you just want a quick workaround, you can disable NLA.
