I want to know how to draw a coil that in either word or powerpoint. I'm involved in a project that requires that I draw a number of different coils of varying sizes and shapes. Anyone have any tips?

That's going to take more fiddling. Here I've drawn two diagonal lines to serve as visual guides. Then I've drawn horizontal guides to make sure each spiral in the cone has consistent spacing. Then draw a series of every larger arcs and edit the points to make the ends meet and to give a repeating curve to each arc:

Cool! Easier to do that what I initially thought of suggesting.

I got the first step, using 2 arcs to create an oval (well sorta).

The next part is where I stumble, bending the bottom arc. I've selected the bottom arc and "edit shapes" >  Edit Points to get the red arc and edit point. When I try to add edit points or move the existing ones things go all squirelly. And even I get something approximately right, it does not continue to show when I take focus away from the shape. But the change is still visible when I return focus to the shape.

    Never mind.

Above I was trying it in PPT 2010 on the PC.  When I switched to PPT 2016 I was able to (almost) recreate your shapes (relatively) easily.

Interesting how much difference there is in the way that 2010 and 2016 handle the arc shape.

    Thank you for the reply.

I was trying to make a conical shaped coil.

Would you have a solution to uniformly reduce the size of the rings?

    Thank you in advance.

Start by using the Arc tool to draw 2 halves of an oval:

Then select each half of the oval and choose Shape Format>Edit Shape>Edit Points. Drag the left side of the bottom arc up:

Then edit the top half and drag the left side down. You should end up with a shape like this:

Group both halves, then duplicate and align:

Keep going and soon you'll have a coil.
