MS Word hyperlinks to mp3 files now default to MS Sign in page

I have a number of Word documents I've created over the years in different versions of Word that link to mp3 files, in order to play songs I've created.  Another link in the Word document connects to a pdf file displaying the music score, allowing the user to see and hear the music.  This has been useful in creating musicals that allow the user to bring up the appropriate music directly from the script instead of having to search around for the correct mp3 file.

Now when I click on the link to play the mp3 files, my default firefox browser comes up with a microsoftonline.com sign in page instead of playing the mp3 file.  This is extremely annoying and forces me to go directly to the mp3 file to play it instead of just calling it up out of the Word document.

Why is the Word document now acting this way and how do I fix it?

The problem seems to be resolved now.  Some other MS program was taking over the link instead of going to the default VLC media player.  VLC was the default program but it was still skipped over.   I did some clean up and other house duties to my computer, and VLC now engages the mp3 link in Word directly allowing the gateway document to play the songs and display the PDF scores correctly like it has always done so in the past.

Thanks....

    Well, Neo, that's the problem.

I don't want Microsoft to decide that for me and keep me from playing an mp3 file designed to work with a Word document.  It used to put up a msg box that just required 1 click: 'Are you sure?' to play the file.  While that was a slight nuisance, it was acceptable because there are dangerous files 'out there'.  But rather than playing the file included with the document and instead taking the user to a browser to sign into a Microsoft account when they may not even have one is a step waaaay to far in the wrong direction.

If you cannot see that, then you cannot be of help.

This is not a browser problem.  It is a Word problem.  No browser is open when I click on a hyperlink in Word, and rather than opening the linked document (which is still linked...I checked) it opens a browser to a Microsoft 'Sign into your Microsoft account' page.

It went away... and now its back after the IT department refreshed my Office 365 because of other quirks that had been showing up.

Something in Office 365 hijacks Word hyperlinks and opens whatever my default browser happens to be to insist I sign into my Microsoft account, thus rendering all Word hyperlinks useless.

    1.  I open a Word document with hyperlinks

    1. I click on a hyperlink (that is still connected to the linked document)
    2. My default browser opens up to a webpage ordering me to sign into my Microsoft account.

    Here is the result:

    Hi Major,

I didn't receive your reply in PM. Can you use Word to let your browser to play mp3 file normally now? Do you still need my support? Please share with me your recent progress.

    Thanks,

    Neo
