Recovering Excel Workbook Passwords

I understand that MS takes security seriously.

So, what would you say to a business owner who has purchased your software, only to have an employee separate and maliciously password protect important documents. Is that business owner out of luck, and now has to recreate all his/her documents.

I can't believe there isn't some sort of failsafe to protect the owner of the documents.

That is not my situation, but it's similar. We have Excel workbooks that were password protected years ago, by an employee who no longer works with us, and we cannot contact. For the first time in years we want to edit these workbooks, but cannot.

There must be something we can do short of expending dozens upon dozens of hours recreating our own material.

Hi, Steven. Thank you for your question and reaching out. My name is John and I’d be more than happy to help you with your query.

I am really sorry about that. This also happened to me before so I totally understand your situation right now. I am afraid there is nothing we can do about it since there is no specific tools for Microsoft to unlock it. But there are some thrid party tools where you can unlock the file if you forgot or did not know what the password is.

This was the article https://passper.imyfone.com/excel/forgot-excel-password/ that helps me to unlock my file when this happened to me. I hope it will also work on you. Fingers crossed!
